Firm Leadership and Philosophy

Jack Butler
Managing Partner

Jack founded RFT in 2013. In addition to providing a variety of advisory and interim/fractional CFO services, he made sure RFT would offer basic accounting and bookkeeping in response to deficiencies he recognized in the accounting results of small- and medium-sized businesses. He witnessed this while a CPA at KPMG, his first job upon graduating from Georgetown University, but it was a theme that would often repeat with new clients throughout his career. Organizations with innovative products and run-away sales find outstanding advisors with respect to tax, audit, and legal, but their accounting staff is frequently limited to bookkeepers, and the AP and AR clerks who support them, who have received battlefield promotion to leadership, but who have limited exposure to taxation, GAAP accounting, financial and managerial reporting, risk, treasury, etc. As such businesses grow, their accounting departments are often stretched beyond what their knowledge and skills can support; it can be difficult to to stay ahead of these needs and hire more advanced skills and leadership, and then it can be challenging to course correct and re-staff when and as necessary.

RFT offers planning and corrective action to maintain optimal performance from accounting departments, in addition to the full gamut of accounting and finance services, from board-level leadership down to basic bookkeeping and bill-paying.

After six years in public accounting Jack moved into private industry where he led accounting & finance, treasury, and operations for over twenty years at companies ranging from start-ups to billion dollar corporations. Jack is a graduate of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business with with a major in Accounting. He also holds a real estate broker's license in California.
